Indeed, nowadays, we don’t use technology, we live technology. Be it the protection against financial identity theft, traffic lights, planes, or our smartphones, technology has made its existence felt everywhere, from home to office to travelling anywhere around the world. And, with the increasing involvement of this high-tech science in every field, it’s threats is also getting worse.

So, here are certain companies of the world, which needs immediate attention, as they are most likely to face the cyber threat, this year ahead.
  • Smart Medical Devices
The great evolution is seen in the health industry. For instance, the patient’s record is maintained online now and some of the medical devices are connected to the Internet of things. However, with this greater advancement, one is unaware of the risk posed by several criminal activities online.
The major threat so far that has been affecting this field is Ransomware.
What it can do: Either it can prevent the access to the data via certain image/message or it can encrypt the files or data on your system and sometimes on network drives, external hard drives, cloud storage drives, and USB drives, too.
  • Crypto Currency
With the increasing use of cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, the hackers are looking more into it. With the aim to mine digital currencies from someone’s account, they look for weakness in the security settings of the system, to gain unauthorized access to a visitor’s computer.
What it can do: Find pre-existing bugs in the system and exploit them. Further, install Trojan horse, providing a hidden-back door for the hackers to enter and play with the protection against financial identity theft.
  • Automobiles
The advent of vehicles like connected cars or trucks have given another chance to the hackers, where they can easily exploit an insecure system, and modify its information to harm drivers. Besides this, the connected cars also pose threat to the privacy issues, where an intruder can easily access and know all about you such as, where you go, what route you travel mostly, how long you stay at a place, and likewise many other important and secure information.
With several ways of hacking, some of the popular names in this list, which can also attack your manufactured cars, are Key Logging, Cookie Theft, and DDOS.
  • Nation-State Cyber Attacks
The increasing attack on the military, commercial, or political data/information of any state government and nation, is a major threat. Often these sponsored attacks are inexpensive when it comes to spying or military operations. Moreover, with low risk, this attack aims to retain the sight of any communication or sensitive data, which may otherwise be a threat to the security of a nation.
The major threat produced in this field is via Phishing.
What it can Do: Send text messages and emails followed by the use of current known exploits. Besides this, create an authentic looking websites, from where the criminals send and steal the personal and financial information by breaking the protection against financial identity theft.
This is just a selection of some of the common attacks types. However, it is important to remember that every other field, which is getting advanced with the IoT is getting prone to cyber attacks. And, unfortunately, the lack of cybersecurity professionals is the major obstacle in combating these threats.
